petteriAug 16, 02:22 PMWell what would this:

http://img145.imageshack.us/img145/2751/stilleto1pg0.jpg

look like if Apple got together with Sirius?

More info on this unit here:

http://www.siriusbackstage.com/2006/08/14/stiletto-details-released-through-crutchfield/

I think a Apple +Sirius or XM deal makes a whole lot of sense. The satellite chipsets and power requirements are getting closer to what would work in an iPod. I don't think Sirius is quite there yet. XM I think so, but I don't think XM is actively looking into a partnership with Apple. Sirius has stated that there have been talks, but nothing of substance yet.

220gb = 50,000 songs?!!!!! That is totally not necessary.

As mentioned above, some people want to listen to their songs uncompressed.

chicagostarsJan 12, 04:37 PMThese whispers seem to have possible validity. I feel that people waiting for a slim MacBook Pro may come away from MacWorld disappointed. A thin machine doesn't seem like it will fit the bill for many pro customers who are often using their MacBook Pros as desktop replacements, but may be great for another market: non-creative professionals, many of whom would like something along the lines of a successor to the 12" Powerbook. (Rumors of an aluminum enclosure don't mean all that much as Apple is going toward aluminum enclosures in more and more of their product lines, regardless the price point or 'pro' image. iPod Shuffle anyone?)

Let's enjoy the show!

sluthyJan 1, 07:33 PMAny chance of updated MBPs? I'm looking to possibly buy one next month but I'm not sure if they're quite competitive enough yet. The major milestone I'm waiting on is HD screens. When Dell can give good quality HD screens in cheaper laptops with equivalent specs (MacOSX notwithstanding), I'm not sure I could part with my money that way. (BTW, when I say HD, I mean 1920x1080, not some bull 720 stuff or anything).

On a related note, Leopard is said to be due "in Spring", so between Mar-May - will I get a free upgrade to Leapord if I buy a MBP in Feb? Or will I be up for another $220 in a month? :(

My Nintendo DS lasts pretty long, even if I'm using WiFi.. and if it's just for Music download, WiFi won't be turned on all the time

blondepianistMay 2, 05:36 PMSo you're saying we should go back to Mac OS Classic cooperative multi-tasking ?

Hello ?

The 80s called, they want their computing paradigms back. Cooperative multi-tasking makes sense on ressource limited architectures. Even the iPhone/iPad like devices are far from "ressource limited". We had pre-emptive multi-tasking on much less capable devices (think 386s with 8 MB of RAM).

I think what he is saying is that programs that are actually doing work in the background can continue running, while those that aren't can suspend iOS style. That is how Lion works. It brings the benefits of both iOS & Mac OS.

steve2112Feb 22, 09:25 PMThe vexing part of that is that the cost is largely artificial - i.e. taxes. Popular pickups like the Ford F-250 have been available in a diesel for years, and because they are trucks they are allowed to use diesel engines that are far more polluting and sooty than they need to be, and are tuned for torque rather than economy - meanwhile Volkswagen has to jump through flaming hoops in order to certify a diesel in its passenger cars, meeting stringent emmissions standards. And yet how many huge displacement V6/V8 diesel trucks are sold in the US each year vs diesel VWs? It's all about arbitrary regulatory nonsense.

It's a small thing, but also in diesel's favor is the increased range you get from a tank of fuel. So while the cost savings isn't much because of the fuel tax, you still get to go farther.

The heavy duty pickups are generally exempt from light-duty emissions and noise standards, so that's how they get away with it. I agree that it is an unfair advantage. I'm not saying that heavy duty trucks should meet the same standards as cars or light duty trucks, but to have them largely exempt and not counted toward the manufacturer's CAFE standards is a bit extreme.

Anyway, here is my point on the diesel vs. hybrids: After a quick glance around the web, I see the Toyota Prius stats at $23,050 and is rated at 51/48 MPG. The 4 door Golf TDI starts at $23,885 and is rated at 42/30 for the auto. Given the differences in mileage and difference in fuel prices, it is really hard for the average buyer to justify buying a diesel. Yes, I have read all over the internet about people getting insane mileage out of the diesels, but most people are just going to look at the ratings and compare that.

warNov 28, 11:49 AMFor all those people talking about XBox let's not forget one major thing about it. It took off because of Halo. What you may not know is that Halo was originally a mac game from a mac developer that MS bought in 2000. Read up on it to tell your MS fanboi friends here.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bungie_Studios

Without Apple gaming there probably would be no XBox today.

Enjoy

SilentwaveSep 6, 05:56 PMReally confused as to why they just didn't skip to Core2.

probably supply reasons and cost reasons.

if they bumped it to core 2, at least the base model would still have been core duo, the c2d one would have been more expensive, and i'm willing to bet we may see the 1.83 C2D in more than just the 17" imac soon.

NebulaClashSep 14, 11:06 AMWant to know an issue that actually DOES bother me about iOS devices? No? Well I'm bored so tough.

I still want to know why I can't plug an iPhone into any computer and use it as a mass storage device for quick transfer of large files?

Android can do this, Symbian can do this, it is not difficult. The thing comes with 32GB of space and I can't dedicate even 1GB of that to a mass storage mount? Really? It's one of the biggest business uses I have for the device. I shouldn't have to carry around a USB stick anymore. Hell with Symbian3 you can even plug a USB stick/drive DIRECTLY INTO the Symbian3 phone itself to move files.

Screw you Steve. Seriously, screw you. That is one of the biggest reasons I will continue to jailbreak. That and a complete lack of quick access to my Wifi/Bluetooth/GPS/3G radio controls.

Interesting. Instead of jailbreaking, know what I do? I copy my files onto my iOS devices as a backup. No problem. I have several GB of data on both my iPod touch and my iPad.

roland.gSep 1, 12:56 PMI was going to do a Mac Mini with a Ministack. I didn't like the idea of the iMac because of the integrated aspect. I already have a 19" display and would upgrade to a 23" ACD when iSight gets added. However my two hangups on the Mini were the 5400 RPM drive and integrated GPU - I want to use it for a lot of iMovie and eventually Final Cut Express. The 23" comes out and I am all over that. So, please please please make it in reduced chin aluminum. Sexy sells.

likemyorbsMar 24, 02:14 PMOk let's not argue about gay being a choice or not again. What's the point? We just had this argument 2 pages ago and the person who thinks it's a choice usually just feels outnumbered and backs out, and rightfully so. Their opinion is wrong, they may realize it years down the line, or they may not. Either way, their side is losing. Bigots always lose in the end in this country, and they know it.

MacMan86Apr 23, 07:19 PMI'm not the one being quick to shout privacy invasion, it was on every tv news channel and news site...

Every tv news channel and news site? I certainly wouldn't go that far. And anyway, most tech sites love to post sensationalist Apple stories because they know it draws in the most clicks and hence more ad revenue. Half of the rest just love to spread FUD. Other brits will probably know that from one of our papers called the Daily Mail. They love these kind of stories.

I dug around the log files of Co Pilot (a popular sat nav app) a little while ago, discovered it kept a log of all the journeys I'd taken with it and the latitude and longitude of all the points along the way. It's not encrypted, it's backed up in iTunes and it's not being transmitted outside the iPhone from what I could tell - exactly the same as this story. Didn't particularly bother me and there's been no public outcry about it. The press love a story like this when it's got Apple's name on it

Lord BlackadderMar 21, 02:36 PMTwitter (http://twitter.com/ShababLibya) is informative, but after 42 years of impotence, normal service cannot be resumed instantaneously. The prospects seem remarkably good, though, that what emerges from this will be an unusually honest democracy.

I hope so, but the next question is how long Libya will have miultiple governments, and under what conditions the rebels recieve official international recognition.

mrblack927Apr 4, 05:40 PMI don't know about this whole fullscreen mode thing. The more "features" they add, the less I like it. I like to see pertinent information at a glance. I don't understand why the menu bar has to be hidden. I lose the ability to see my battery %, wifi status, even the time of day at a glance. All for what? to save 20 pixels of space? I'm sorry but if you need screen space that badly you should invest in a bigger monitor. Even the iOS devices leave the information bar at the top... :o

Just my thoughts...

Fubar1977Apr 17, 10:35 AMIMO, if a gearbox has a setting where it will automatically shift gears for you and you don't have to touch it, it's an automatic gearbox.

Sure, some auto gearboxes (DSG) are better than others (torque converter) but they're still automatic.

I must admit that, other than a couple of times just to try it out, I pretty much never use manual mode on the DSG box.
TBH there is no-way I could manually change faster than this box can.
In my case it`s fitted to a 2 litre turbo-diesel and the 6 speed DSG can keep the engine in the "power band" pretty much constantly if you want it to.

In "Sport Mode" it`s so damn fierce it`s almost undriveable.
I have embarrased many a petrol powered car in this thing :)
