That no longer exists. Go to the mbp page and click the core duo icon, and I get a page not found.

This will probably change by the time anyone verifies it.

SuperCachetesMar 2, 08:24 PMI started a thread about the new Passat and Jetta a little while back. Basically, the new Jetta is bigger, costs less, and uses cheaper materials. People expecting Golf-like levels of refinement and build quality will be disappointed.

And it went from looking like nothing else to looking like everything else.

I don't find it ugly, necessarily, but when I see one, I always think "Corolla!" - until I get closer, and then I think "Kia!"

Lord BlackadderFeb 23, 01:21 AMAnyway, here is my point on the diesel vs. hybrids: After a quick glance around the web, I see the Toyota Prius stats at $23,050 and is rated at 51/48 MPG. The 4 door Golf TDI starts at $23,885 and is rated at 42/30 for the auto. Given the differences in mileage and difference in fuel prices, it is really hard for the average buyer to justify buying a diesel. Yes, I have read all over the internet about people getting insane mileage out of the diesels, but most people are just going to look at the ratings and compare that.

They will, but VW rated its mileage conservatively, because they wanted to make sure their new diesel didn't promise more than it delivered. I think that VW may revise those numbers in the future.

A diesel is still simpler, cheaper and potentially more reliable than a hybrid, and gives better fuel economy than a gasoline-engined car. So there is a definite market there, one that is likely to grow in the near future.

They are exempt from CAFE( since HD's are supposed to be work trucks and all), but they are required to meet the new diesel emissions laws.

True, that's a good point. But my original point was that the "Americans don't want diesels" argument doesn't hold water if people are buying diesel trucks in healthy numbers.

ezekielrage_99Aug 24, 09:22 PMIf Apple's marketing of the Intel Macs is really in high gear then I would have to say seeing Core 2 Duo in highly likely for September.

During the start of this week I tried to buy a new MacBook or MacBook Pro at Nextbyte computers in Sydney. The Apple guys there told me that all they had left in terms of MacBook and MacBook Pro stock was the floor stock (which I didn't want) they also said that they were expecting a "very big" shipment second to third week of September which is inline with the release of the Core 2 Duo.

Personally I think we will see the Core 2 Duo in Macs as soon as Apple gets there hands on it

FoxyKayeJun 23, 12:00 PMiOS on a real Mac seems about as pointless as Microsoft Bob on Windows.

Granted, there are some highly innovative aspects to iOS, and integrating some of these into a desktop computer OS would be beneficial.

But gods help us all of iOS and OS X merge at some point - as was pointed out on Slashdot just today, it would create a fully media DRM-locked, Apple-controlled application distribution center. Which would be very beneficial to Apple, but not so much to the consumer.

Although speculation that this will happen is rampant, as exemplified by the ARS Technica article today: http://arstechnica.com/apple/news/2010/06/developers-expect-ios-and-mac-os-to-merge-over-time.ars

In the meantime, it has been well over a year since either the XServe or Mac Pro have seen an update (despite charging through the roof for last year's technology), and Apple hasn't said anything about 10.7. That should be enough of an indicator right there.

imnotatfaultAug 19, 07:16 AMExcept at a lot of Starbucks that internet functionality comes at a cost, which is my point.

May be bliss, but not until we have a sound infrastructure. And I have been on some really shoddy networks, which ends up becoming far more frustrating than worthwhile, to the point where I just slam my PDA into my pocket and curse inaudibly.

jettredmontApr 12, 09:52 PMWho thinks that they'll eliminate Final Cut Express and lower the price of Final Cut Pro? iMovie seems to serve the "express crowd" while FCP would be within reach of the semi-pro demographic if the price were around $300.

That would be a good move, but I'm not convinced Apple would do it. I think it's fairly likely that Final Cut Express goes away, perhaps replaced with mid-priced Final Cut components (ie, pieces of the Final Cut Studio package).

Should know soon enough though (at least on FCP pricing structure; FCE has always lagged behind FCP since it first came out).

Still, it's good to see other governments taking the point on this. We've got enough on our plate as it is.

Why should we "take point" on everything? I think that's a ridiculous idea.

its this easy
I dont think its that simple. This makes the mini wayyy more appealing to alot of people. Its a close call if you're deciding to get a mini or an iMac.

And aren't there more new announcements next week on the 12th? I dread to think of what new killer products/updates they are reserving that for!

SpoonyApr 26, 02:52 PMHere is what makes me think it's not generic and apple would/should win.

There have been other online stores that sell computer programs/applications before apple created the "app store" None of them used the word App in their store name.

Examples:

GetJar
MobileRated
Cellmania

Apple launches a store just like these but better and called the store "App Store"

July 10, 2009 Apple's "App Store launches". Pre this no online stores used the term "app"

Post apples launch other phone makers/OS systems start to scramble.

App Catalog = Palm
App World = RIM
Amazon AppStore = Amazon

Stores that didn't ride apples coattails

Android Market = Android
Ovi Store = Nokia
Windows Phone Marketplace = Microsoft.

If "app store" was so obvioius and generic why did no one call their store "App store" until apple did? This is like everyone that argues that the iphone is so generic with it's icons and screen. I mean so obvious. No it's not obvioius.

If it was obvious Netjar, Mobilerated, Steam etc.. would just say "App Store" instead of some other random word.

Even the unauthorized iphone Store Cydia doesn't use the word app in their store name. "Unauthorized App Store" "Rogue App Store"

App Store is apple.

Even Wikipedia's serach term "app store" goes to the apple "app store" page. if want other onlilne phone stores you need to go to the disambiguation section.

macgeek18Feb 21, 07:46 PMNot concerned with the impending refresh? Or do you plan to return and rebuy post-refresh?

I bought an 08 MacBook Aluminum. So No i'm not concerned or care about the upcoming refresh.

GurubarryApr 13, 02:42 AMI second this.

Me too, I gave up FCE when my new mini mac wouldn't run it , then imovie after I spent hours trying to work with SD card captured HD footage . So ,perhaps I may be able to return to mac editing without firing up my hacked imovie HD suite . I hope so , but another $300 each time the OSX is changed is not encouraging me at the moment .

StetrainApr 2, 08:18 PMWhile you may think your sarcasm-laden post witty, the fact remains that you have not stated any kind of revelation.

They do not care about ONE consumer...but they certainly are going to care about the thousands of units that are being returned and exchanged in hopes of finding one good unit.

I would tell you to review the iPad forum but I have a feeling that message would be lost on somebody so insistent on keeping their head in the sand.

I like how you continue to respond to this one person and ignore the posts about actual personal experience with iPads and those who own them, and those who have seen plenty of others' iPads, all without defects.

spyderracer393Nov 27, 02:34 PMWow, for the first time ever I actually beat MacRumors: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?p=3095478#post3095478

I think a 17" model would be a good idea for Apple. It'll stop people buying Minis from getting their LCD fix from elsewhere to some extent and won't cost Apple a bean in R&D costs since they already use 17" panels in the iMac and have all the internals ready because of the 20" and 23" ACDs. It would only need a different sized chassis to be designed.

dude you may have "beaten them" by getting on the front page, but I sent this tip in this morning at 8 AM and it was not from digitimes, it was from industry resources and factories in Asia so HA I beat you.

fatandconfusedApr 19, 03:19 PMWhich is about a month away. I wonder how many buyers on the fence for this refresh will have the patience to wait even longer for the promotion.

Oh, and that's right, Lion should also be out in about 1-2 months after that as well. ;)

And then it'll be ivy bridge and then they'll release a 30" version and the wait goes on...i'm getting a 27" refurb july 2010 model once the new ones come out, hopefully for a further discounted price. It'll do the trick for me.
